I captured weddings for years, learning to be still inside a couple's most sacred moments. Then I moved to NYC and had children, and my whole world cracked open. My daughters taught me to devote my attention to the big and the small—the freckles, the wonder, the way a feeling moves across a face. Living in New York gave me room to grow into something I couldn't have otherwise.

I've returned to the South and to my camera with two instincts: the almost-missed moment — and the held one.
